2023 Level 1 Wrestling Coaching Accreditation Course

Nominations are open for 2023 Level 1 Coaching Course which will be held in Brisbane over 2 days.  Dates are still to be confirmed.

 

All nominees must be current financial members of Wrestling Australia.  All membership applications are done online through the Revolutionise website.  

 

For full requirements for Level 1 Coaching Accreditation, please refer the documents linked below.  The required online modules, background check, first aid certificate, etc can all be completed in advance of the training course.

Please note:

 

  • The course is level 1, which is beginner coaching.  It is suitable for those new to Wrestling and/or coaching.
  • On completion of the course, successful assessment of workbook, supervised coaching under a senior coach and completion of all requirements, participants will be accredited as a Level 1 Wrestling Coach.
  • The course covers a range of modules including the history of wrestling, rules and regulations, standing wrestling/par terre wrestling theory and practice, sport specific skills, session planning and risk management.

Nominations for Level 1 Coaching Course

Wrestling Queensland will be hosting a Level 1 Coaching Accreditation course and is calling for nominations for attendees.  The date is not finalised, but the course will be held at Lang Park PCYC before the end of 2021 provided there are no restrictions on community sports or gatherings for COVID-19.

 

 

A letter from State President Bob Franklin can be found here.  There will be a cost of $100 for attendance and attendees must be members of Wrestling Queensland (click here for online membership).

There are a number of requirements for accreditation – including membership to Wrestling Queensland, online training courses, current first aid qualification, blue card and background check.  Nominees are encouraged to complete all available requirements as soon as possible.

Changes to Lang Park Thursday Class

Coach Walter will no longer be running the Thursday evening Lang Park PCYC Freestyle Wrestling class due to work commitments. Coach Shad will be running the sessions.

Training Resumes at Lang Park PCYC

Freestyle Wrestling Classes will resume at Lang Park PCYC on Saturday 17th April 10:30am.

State Government COVID-19 restrictions will be easing on Thursday 15th April however the evening class will not be running on this day due to the Broncos game.

Vale Aaron Stapleton

Wrestling has sadly lost a long time competitor and supporter on Boxing Day with the death of Aaron Stapleton, aged 50.
 
 
Aaron won 3 Australian Titles in Greco-Roman and represented Australia at the 2003 Greco-Roman World Championship in Creteil France, the 1999 Oceania Championship in both styles and the 1999 Asia Oceania Cup also in both styles.
 
 
A service for Aaron will be held 2pm Monday January 4th at the Federation Chapel, Centenary Memorial Gardens, 353 Wacol Station Road, Sumner.
 
 
All are welcome to attend.

Queensland Sport and Recreation – COVID 19 Update

New restrictions have been applied to gatherings in Queensland due to the confirmed COVID 19 cases.

 

At the time of writing (23/08/2020), the Queensland Government has confirmed that these restrictions do not apply to  WQ Inc activities or training (“Community Sport”).  Please note that existing safety measures must be followed and it is critical that people are excluded from attending who have:

 

  • COVID 19 or had contact with someone who has.
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Travelled internationally.
  • Travelled to a COVID 19 hotspot.
  • Visited a location listed on the contact tracing website.

April Coronavirus Update

As of 19th of March 2020, Wrestling Queensland Inc has recommended all clubs suspend training as part of precautions against the spread of Coronavirus, with this suspension to be reviewed on completion of the Easter Holiday period. 

 

In the interest of safety, WQ Inc is continuing to recommend all training be suspended as per guidelines by State and Federal Health departments and with the ongoing closure of indoor sports venues as part of Federal ‘place of social gathering’ restrictions.
